Chapter Sixteen

I was an adult but I wasn’t afraid to admit that I missed my mom. It was the last day of class and I wanted to go home. I decided to take Jesse with me. It was time for him to meet the family, and my mom was dying to get to know the boy who protected me. The whole family was going to be there, including the more-pregnant-than-ever Kara.

“What am I supposed to bring?” Jesse asked, as we sat in his dorm room trying to drum up some outfits for him. The place was a pigsty. His roommate, Bobby, was sleeping despite the fact that the lights were on and we were talking and moving around. I never understood boys.

“Give me the options.” He put on a pair of dark jeans and took out an unfolded pile of sweaters for me to pick from. I started folding, and went through each piece one by one.

“This is cute,” I said, smelling it and deciding that it was the only clean one in the bunch. It was simple. Green. Pinstripe. Polo. The boy’s mother had taste. I searched through the other pile and found another sweater with a half zipper down the front.

“I love this,” I said, admiring the smoky gray color.

He pulled it over his manly shoulders and I drooled.

“You’re fucking hot.”

He pulled on his work boots and flipped his hair to the side. He walked over and kissed me, lifting me down from his bunk bed. I then inspected his weekend bag one more time, searching for socks and underwear.

“Did I forget something?” Rifling through his underwear drawer, I found his Calvin Klein boxer briefs. Can you say ‘fuck me’ anyone?

“Let’s take three of each,” I giggled. “Don’t forget your toothbrush!”

“What would I do without you?” He smiled, spinning around and kissing me again.

“Well, you’d be going commando.”

He nibbled on my earlobe, making me giggle.

“You’re gonna turn me on and I can’t have sex hair when my dad gets us.”

“True.” He picked up his bag and we headed over to my dorm to get my stuff. I decided on jeans and a sweater, a dress, and a whole bunch of leggings, sweatshirts, and relaxing clothes. Plus, I had more clothes at home if I needed them.

“You’ve clearly done this before,” Jesse said, opening up the bag he’d given me and taking out a joint.

“It’s easier to pack when you’re more organized.” I giggled. I threw in my toiletries and chargers and zipped up my bag.

“You’re really smoking right before we get in the car with my dad? Especially after my roommate threatened me?”

“Live on the edge, Stace.” He laughed. “It’s just a little bud.”

I agreed, knowing that although my thoughts would be a little clouded I would be able to function easier

“Okay.” I smiled. “A couple hits will be fine.”

When we finished the joint, my dad was calling us so he could come and help us with our bags. I sprayed myself with perfume from my bag and Jesse drowned himself in cologne.
